During the summer between my first and second years as a student at the UW iSchool, I participated in the Netherlands Exchange program. A group of 20 students spent four weeks in the Netherlands studying research in information science with program director Trent Hill. Why study in the Netherlands instead of Seattle? Because Holland’s freakin’ awesome, that’s why! (I do love Seattle, too, but a chance to get away is nice.) This blog is intended to show some of the highlights of the trip and our studies.
About the title: “Fiets” is the Dutch word for bicycle, which can be seen by the thousands every day in the Netherlands. I had a delightful time exploring my surroundings by pedaling through them. I tried to explore the ideas that we discussed in the class the same way: slowly, carefully and with a spirit of fun.
